🤔FAQs
What is Modulr?
Modulr is a global network for teleoperating robots—letting anyone control, rent, or deploy machines anywhere in the world. It connects robotics, AI, data, and compute through one open, verifiable system.
How do I explain what Modulr does to my grandma?
Tell her Modulr is like Airbnb for robots. Instead of buying a vacation home every time you want to go somewhere, you can just rent one for a short time. You pay a rental fee to the owner of the vacation home, and you get to enjoy their amenities for a short time.
Modulr does this^ for robots, but instead of you having to travel anywhere, you can operate any robot, anywhere, from the comfort of your own place.
Why does Modulr need its own blockchain?
Global robot operation demands reliability, precision, and flexibility that other chains can’t guarantee. By building our own L1, we control the timing, reward logic, and safety mechanisms that keep robots running in real time—without depending on another network’s rules or downtime. For a more detailed answer, check Why Make Another L1?.
When will Modulr go live?
The testnet launches in late 2025, followed by mainnet in ~April 2026. You can view the full roadmap here: Roadmap & Key Milestones.
Is Modulr competing with other blockchains?
No. Modulr isn’t a general-purpose chain—it’s a specialized infrastructure layer for connecting robotic systems to the digital world. We’ll still integrate with major networks for liquidity and interoperability, but the control layer is optimized for the robotics-enabled economy.
What are eMDR and MDR?
eMDR is our Ethereum-based Modulr token. For detailed info, please see Token Roles: eMDR and MDR and eMDR Holder Benefits.
Currently it is the only token for Modulr, however when mainnet launches, we'll launch MDR as the primary token and eMDR can be transferred 1:1 to MDR. This is no different than TAO and wTAO—which is Ethereum-based TAO—except that we launched our Ethereum token first (eMDR) before the native token (MDR).
The contract address for eMDR is 0x468EAbcB5C914ac59e72691F8fc970880A94f4B3.

Will you list your token on centralized exchanges, too?
Yes! We plan on listing our native token MDR on several large centralized exchanges once mainnet launches. However, most centralized exchanges have hefty listing fees, and that money is better spent on product development and forming strong marketing partnerships—which will also give us access to higher-tier exchanges.
What is “Proof of Utility”?
Proof of Utility (PoU) is Modulr’s incentive model for robots doing what they are being paid for. It rewards useful, verifiable work—robots completing tasks, data being processed, compute being contributed—rather than passive token staking or energy consumption. If something wasn’t actually done, it doesn’t get rewarded.
How does Modulr make money?
The network earns from licensing its teleoperation software, marketplace activity, and integrations.
Can anyone operate robots through Modulr?
Yes. Once connected, users can rent or operate robots remotely for education, tourism, retail, logistics, entertainment, and more. For a more complete list of use case possibilities, please see Modulr Use Cases.
Businesses can also list their own fleets for others to use and earn from.
